Stop #14: Hoover Dam- Lake Mead RV

We reached Nevada at night and made camp at Lake Mead. The next morning we got up and headed to Hoover Dam. It was quite a well-protected area and we even had to go through a vehicle search before we could drive over it. It was about 115 degrees outside and we were all tired and hot just walking from the parking lot to the entrance.
Our tickets included a tour inside the power plant. The elevator ride down was 70 seconds but we descended 530 feet into the Black Canyon walls. It was suprisingly cooler down below and we were happy to get out of the sun. I was amazed at the detailed design of the dam and what the workers endured to complete this structure.

Once our tour was done, it was back to the blazing sun. We decided to visit Lake Mead and go for a swim. The boys had a rock-skipping contest. Jason Jr. had the most with 9 skips.

After some laundry and computer work, our time at Lake Mead RV was up and we were ready to drive towards the bright lights of the Las Vegas Strip.
